One columnist wrote about the fact that all forms of dancing are sexual. Well, here’s his standpoints.
Bumping and grinding comes from African-American women asserting themselves as sexual beings when they were essentially shut out from hip-hop and breakdancing, which were dominated by African-American men.
While I understand that parents are upset with the sexualized nature of grinding, they should probably remember that since the rise of rock n’ roll in the 1950s most popular dance styles have been sexual in one way or the other. Don’t forget slow dancing to song ballads, which is really an excuse to be physically closer and dance intimately with a partner.
Excuse me, but you forgot the waltz. Not only did those prudes in the Regency Era bashed it for being too sexual. In 2007, some people treated it the same way when it first came to the Chinese school curriculum.
